Roundtable on Engaging Adolescents & Young Adults With Chronic Conditions in Patient-Centered Comparative Effectiveness Research for Peer Support Interventions
The Roundtable on Engaging Adolescents & Young Adults With Chronic Conditions in Patient-Centered CER for Peer Support Interventions is a multi-stakeholder learning community of young adult patients, medical professionals, and researchers who meet monthly to engage in discussions on the existing literature, current challenges, and future opportunities to develop patient-centered research on peer support for young adults with chronic conditions. The ultimate goal of this project is to build capacity to engage in patient-centered research to assess peer support as a crucial intervention for young adult patients and strengthen the impact of future peer-support research.
This roundtable is supported by the Eugene Washington PCORI Engagement Award Program, an initiative of the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI). You can learn more about the details of our project here.
Guidance Document for Researchers
To strengthen the impact of future peer-support research, our roundtable members created the Guidance Document to guide research on cross-disease peer support for young adult patients and provide important considerations for developing and executing studies about peer support for this population.
During our two-year Roundtable, we reviewed the existing literature on peer support interventions for young adults with chronic conditions. This Guidance Document is a compilation of our insights and learnings and includes our recommendations for strengthening future research on peer support interventions.
We hope researchers will use the considerations laid out in this document to help guide the development and implementation of future studies on peer support interventions for young adult patients.

Companion Checklist
This checklist functions as a practical tool for researchers to reference throughout the research process, distilling essential insights, best practices, and recommendations from our comprehensive Guidance Document on Patient-Centered Peer-Support Research for Young Adult Patients.

Peer-Support Toolkit
As part of this roundtable, we wanted to create a resource that would help other patients or community-led organizations create their own peer-support programs. We developed this toolkit to share our processes and recommendations for creating, facilitating, and sustaining community-led peer-support groups for AYA patients.

Register here to join our town hall on March 28th!
Patient-led peer support interventions for young adults with chronic conditions have been heavily under-utilized as a solution to improve not only mental health but also promote disease acceptance and management. Join us as we unpack some crucial findings from our Roundtable on Engaging Adolescents & Young Adults With Chronic Conditions in Patient-Centered Comparative Effectiveness Research for Peer Support Interventions through our two-year award from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute. Multiple presenters leading the project will deliver summaries on our guidance document ad companion checklist for researchers, our peer support facilitation toolkit, our proceedings document, and the next steps for building patient-centered research for peer support interventions. This town hall is designed for anyone to attend, regardless of familiarity with peer support interventions.
This Townhall is designed for:
Healthcare professionals (i.e., physicians, nurse practitioners, social workers, mental health professionals)
Researchers
Patient advocacy groups
Mental health funders
Young adults with chronic conditions
Care partners/caregivers
Anyone who has an interest in peer support!
