This forum is a perfect opportunity to learn more about the history of the pharmaceutical industry, learning about people like George Merck, founder of Merck & Co., and Charles Pfizer, founder of Pfizer Inc. We’ll be speaking with Gerald Posner, author of PHARMA, on the topics listed below.

No prior information or education about the pharmaceutical industry or drug pricing is needed for this forum! We will cover topics including:

  • What patents are and the gradual greed of the pharmaceutical industry by over-patenting and marketing strategies

  • How pharmaceutical companies realized that they can file multiple patents on single drugs

  • The challenges with the monopolization and merging of the pharmaceutical industry

  • How taxpayer-funded drugs are sold back to taxpayers at high prices and how this affects treatment accessibility and affordability

  • A look at the start of the conversation about drug pricing by the HIV/AIDS community (AIDS Act UP 1987).

You will walk away from this forum one step closer to knowing more about the history of prescription drug pricing.
